Lion movie nominated for 6 oscars starring Dev Patel last saw him in Slumdog Millionare as Jamal. I had misty eyes at the end of the movie as its emotionally churning, surreal so poignant and relevant in todays Geo-political scenario where we are fighting caste, color, migrants vs non migrant and some where amidst all this the basic ethos of humanity gets lost.
Its  beautiful story about a boy from Khandwa MP who gets lost in a train at the age of 5 lands accidentally in Kolkata and escapes the human trafficking and reaches a orphanage from where he is adopted by an Australian family. 25 yes later he plans to go back to find his roots and through google earth finally finds his village and finally finds answer to his unanswered questions.

The apathy of a women in our country

The recent case of a MBA girl being raped in the National Capital Territory of India is one of the many cases which takes place not only in our country but around the globe. Its only a few of them that gets highlighted and amongst them also very few gather the courage to go and lodge a FIR because sadly even today in our country a rape is considered a scar on the girl's character. But the larger issue and which is the irony of our society that it is the women only who has face the brunt of the whole thing and the man amongst all these mostly goes Scot free why because its a MAN'S WORLD. Actually to understand this psyche we have to go back in the history. Historically, if u see a women was considered no more than a bearer of child. Man actually was always afraid of women and her capability. Therefore , he always wanted women to be kept under his toes and not allow her to raise her voice . This fear was only because she was the bearer of his off springs. As once my teachers at the law faculty told in Jurisprudence that MAN'S OBJECTIVITY IS WOMEN'S SUBJECTIVITY. Now , i do understand what it meant when i try to analyse it. Man historically if we see kept pestering into a woman's mind that man is the head of the family and a women's duty is to only look after the family. For that , he kept women out of education for a long time and i feel even till today if u look that between a son and a daughter its only the son who from childhood till he dies gets all the benefits from toys to schools, to college for a girl schooling or max a graduation is enough and for a boy engineering, MBA etc. For a girl, marriage is the end of her bonding for the family and for a guy not only he weds, he gets dowry if not in cash these days but in kind and the society openly accepts it also without a fuss. Why is the vice verse not valid. Then after marriage a guy staying with his family is acceptable but for a daughter if she stays with her parents then the society raises eyebrow. Even in the will of the family till sometime ago shockingly , a women had no share in family ancestral property. Then even the last rights of a father under no circumstance's can it be performed by a girl irrespective whether she has a sibling brother, husband , son even a neighbour can do but only if he is a man. What logic god knows. Why because this society says or its the customs and who makes the society or its customs. Isn't it we the people who make this society and its customs. Isn't this society at when point in time used to propagate Sati and in the days of the Raja and Maharaja's women burning along with the pyre of her husband. Which thankfully because of IshwarChandra Vidyasagar and Lord William Benedick was abolished(Correct me if i am wrong). Have we become so conditioned that we just go on doing things in the name of societal norm, have we the educated elite forgotten to question these norms. Even today, why does this society raise an eyebrow when a women smokes or drinks in public and think it manly when the man does the same thing. How does his character become in any manner more or less inferior than that of a women if it all. One logic which i have heard that for a women its bad because its harmful for the child in the womb. But isn't the same applicable to a man too because passive smoking is also as bad as self smoking and not only that smoking is harmful even for the man as he is the head of the family and upon his life the lives of other people in the family is dependent upon, so how can his smoking be legitimate and women smoking be not . Why a women divorcee is looked as a failure in life and why is a widow remarrying still looked down in our society and why is the society sympathetic towards a widower. Still in our society even more in our elite society a girl child is killed or female foeticide is practised. Why does the Indian Society have this fascination for a male child even after the family has or had enough number of girls. I have seen enough in my quarter life that a girl looks after her fathers family much more than what a son does. The saddest part or the irony in our country is that we worship god as Durga , Laxmi etc but somewhere we forget that there is a durga and laxmi in each one of our home whom the society kills everyday. Till very recently a women being rapped was considered as a fault of the women and her being adventurous(As Mrs. Dixit , DElhi Chief Minister once said), a girl of no moral but why didn't this same society question the boy who in my opinion should have been beaten in after he was convicted by the Court in public because so that in future no one dares to do anything like this.People outrages the modesty of a women and we the nation are a spectator to it and have become so thick skinned that nothing disturbs us. The worst part is that the women also have been so very much conditioned by the norms of the society that she never questions all this , even if she does then also mutely.Sad isn't it. We as a society are the greatest hypocrites and no matter how rich we as a nation may become but as a society we are far far behind. Modernity doesn't come from the clothes or gadgets you carry, it comes from the thought which you carry.

THE PEACE MARCH AT THE GATEWAY OF INDIA 2/12/2008

I am amazed that no one here discussed about the history which was created yesterday at the Gateway of India, where 2 lakhs people gathered to protest, pay their homage to the people who lost their lives by lighting a candle. Initially i was hesitant cause i am new to the city moreover i was not getting any taxies from my office at Cuffe Parade WTC because of the jam. So i had to take a taxi to churchgate to go home i.e. at andheri. But the movement I reached church gate and the atmosphere of so many people heading towards azad maidan, I thought such movement don’t come everyday cause we the middle class only talk in our Drawing rooms and blog and join communities like I love Bombay or i hate terrorism but don't want to do anything to change the system. But it was truely an amazing feeling i am still getting those goose bumps of Indian Tri colour fluttering. Of so many urban youth, old, women, children, the Celebes and despite of so much of crowd people just dint leave because everyone there came for a cause. The cause of awakening the masses, our political fraternity who were saying "that three to four people wearing shirt and ties and women with lipsticks n all don’t make a movement" . But here there were lakhs of people who were shouting slogans of BHARAT MATA KI JAI, VANDE MATARAM, Enough is Enough and putting up there banners which were extremely innovative. ALSO TO PROVE A POINT THAT EVEN AFTER A WEEK OF THAT CARNAGE PEOPLE ARE STILL INFURIATED and still want answers from the politicians and to prove a point that Mumbai is angry but still lakhs of people can go to the place where so many people lost their lives and prove a point that we are not afraid. That the True SPIRIT OF MUMBAI, which is sensitive and is not selfish coz the people who were there were there despite all odds after their work going for rally aint an easy thing to do. What really amazed was that this was not a rally which was announced. It was with the help of all F.M stations, blog and SMS that so many people gathered. This is what Democracy means Of the People, By the people and to the people. This will go down in the history of India as the day the urban middle class rose to the occasion after 60 years of Independence without any netas/politicians, no ads in the newspapers. The change has come the change we wanted, but I must say the Policemen in Mumbai were extremely good they dint lathicharge or anything, people shook hands with them, and volunteers gave them water. Mumbai is an Amazing place though i am new to the city but the kind of bondage u make with the people is what sets it apart. This despite the fact that i stayed in Delhi for 21 yrs of my life but didn't see anything like this. But the feeling of being part of the city despite there being so much of chaos is just too good. I wanted the I Love Mumbai T-shirts which many people were wearing but didn't get them. In the end i would like to congratulate all the people who were there. This is the first step of many changes which will come. The result also came within hours of Chief Minister resigning and taking responsibility of what went wrong. The MTV generation cares is what it proved yesterday and they are selfless and it only they need a direction.
