THE PEACE MARCH AT THE GATEWAY OF INDIA 2/12/2008

I am amazed that no one here discussed about the history which was created yesterday at the Gateway of India, where 2 lakhs people gathered to protest, pay their homage to the people who lost their lives by lighting a candle. Initially i was hesitant cause i am new to the city moreover i was not getting any taxies from my office at Cuffe Parade WTC because of the jam. So i had to take a taxi to churchgate to go home i.e. at andheri. But the movement I reached church gate and the atmosphere of so many people heading towards azad maidan, I thought such movement don’t come everyday cause we the middle class only talk in our Drawing rooms and blog and join communities like I love Bombay or i hate terrorism but don't want to do anything to change the system. But it was truely an amazing feeling i am still getting those goose bumps of Indian Tri colour fluttering. Of so many urban youth, old, women, children, the Celebes and despite of so much of crowd people just dint leave because everyone there came for a cause. The cause of awakening the masses, our political fraternity who were saying "that three to four people wearing shirt and ties and women with lipsticks n all don’t make a movement" . But here there were lakhs of people who were shouting slogans of BHARAT MATA KI JAI, VANDE MATARAM, Enough is Enough and putting up there banners which were extremely innovative. ALSO TO PROVE A POINT THAT EVEN AFTER A WEEK OF THAT CARNAGE PEOPLE ARE STILL INFURIATED and still want answers from the politicians and to prove a point that Mumbai is angry but still lakhs of people can go to the place where so many people lost their lives and prove a point that we are not afraid. That the True SPIRIT OF MUMBAI, which is sensitive and is not selfish coz the people who were there were there despite all odds after their work going for rally aint an easy thing to do. What really amazed was that this was not a rally which was announced. It was with the help of all F.M stations, blog and SMS that so many people gathered. This is what Democracy means Of the People, By the people and to the people. This will go down in the history of India as the day the urban middle class rose to the occasion after 60 years of Independence without any netas/politicians, no ads in the newspapers. The change has come the change we wanted, but I must say the Policemen in Mumbai were extremely good they dint lathicharge or anything, people shook hands with them, and volunteers gave them water. Mumbai is an Amazing place though i am new to the city but the kind of bondage u make with the people is what sets it apart. This despite the fact that i stayed in Delhi for 21 yrs of my life but didn't see anything like this. But the feeling of being part of the city despite there being so much of chaos is just too good. I wanted the I Love Mumbai T-shirts which many people were wearing but didn't get them. In the end i would like to congratulate all the people who were there. This is the first step of many changes which will come. The result also came within hours of Chief Minister resigning and taking responsibility of what went wrong. The MTV generation cares is what it proved yesterday and they are selfless and it only they need a direction.
